On the topic of brothers of legends -

Nicanor didn't do anything. You can find the race and excuses on youtube.

However, Mizzen Mast's brother made his US Debut with a great win in 1 1/8m allowance on the grass at Santa Anita. Butchering the start and sitting 8 lengths off a strong pace, he was a little green in the stretch (lugging in behind the pace setters) before shifting out for an easy win, without the whip. Ridden by Patrick Husbands (slumming in the States this winter) for Juddmonte Farms and trainer Bobby Frankel, Lease of Life covered the distance in 1:47 3/5.

I'm looking forward to Lease of Life's next start.

  1. An auspicious entry into the So Cal circuit, but that was a pretty soft bunch on paper. I'm anxious to see how he fares in stakes company. I hope he takes to the states like his elder brother did, but avoids the foot problems that limited his number of races.

Not sure where he starts next, i don't like the Santa Anita stakes options for him. I doubt they throw him to the deep end in the Kilroe Mile 3/7 (g. I), I also think he wants 9F+. But does he want 12F in g. II San Luis Rey? Maybe they'll ship him or look for a 2nd level allowance.

  2. I didn't think he was bred to run much more than 1 1/8m, but he finished that race up pretty strongly. Like his sib he figures to hate the off-going (LoL finished 17th in his lone soft-turf start, and the Mizz was awful in his US Debut in the Secretariat at Arlington Park, won by Startac in an absolute bog). Being in SoCal under Frankel's care is perfect for him.
